The 37-year-old XDA champ, who was affectionately nicknamed the "King of the Hand Clutch," died on Monday, July 3, according to DragBike.com and his obituary.
He grew up attending the Manassas Park City Public Schools. A cause of death was not released.
"Derrick found joy in motorcycle drag racing and was a founding member of the .00 Racing team," his obituary reads. "He was one of the most feared THC bracket racers to ever do it! He leaves behind a true legacy in motorcycle drag racing."
"When Derrick was not racing, he found joy in building his own business, Champion Pool Services, and spending time with his one and only daughter Marleigh," his obituary continues. "His child was his deepest love, his unwavering pride, and the center of his joy!"
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, July 15 at the Maryland International Raceway. Visitation is set for Friday, July 21 at the Mount Zion Baptist Church, in Triangle, with a service to follow.
